Here’s to more dreamy April days 🌱
I thought I’d try out the Spring Tides necklace (on my website) as a wrap bracelet—turns out it is like hitting the bracelet bonanza! It fits very well with five wraps plus one wrap of chain. This lovely piece has big chunky amethyst and faceted chrysoprase, plus a pretty supporting cast of howlite and african glass beads. If you want to wear it as a bracelet, I think I would feel better (security wise) if I switched out the current S hook clasp with a lobster claw, and that would be no prob to do! Price has been reduced to $45.00 because, well—it’s spring! 🌿🌸
I’m always trying to rid my studio of plastics and toxic glues... some days it seems like a futile task... plastic tubes, boxes, vials and zippie bags abound in bead world; but I love what’s been coming together lately with these Bisley cabinets. Solid steel, built like a truck 🤩🤩 but comes in colors like pink!!💫💫 Skinny drawers perfect for beads by color... on top is my wooly pin cushion in an antique dish, and the vintage silver coffee pot hides random pieces of threads that are too good to throw away—they get repurposed into something! Can’t wait to get beading again👍🏻💫 #studiovibes #studiotime #bisley#fridaygoals#pinkaesthetic#backtowork#makersgonnamake
I love beaded ropes and there are so many different ways to make them! This is an exciting new style of bracelet that looks like bead crochet but is actually peyote stitch on the diagonal. The brilliant Gerlinde Lenz developed this technique. This bracelet uses stretch cord and a gorgeous hand carved accent bead of lapis lazuli . (this one is unavailable but please contact me if you would like something similar!💫)
Dorothea Lange’s life of photography is about as far away from product photography and gyrating instagram feeds as it is possible to be; but, after recently watching a documentary on her life and amazing work it made realize how far away I am from the type of photography I would love to do. Lange’s work was fueled by a passion for truth—to truly represent things as they are. People and ideas were her subjects, and she wanted to better the condition of the world. Her work is stark, of course—there is no charm of color or blending of filters to mask the truth—yet the beauty in her work is breathtaking. She was truly an artist who could “see”. In my beadwork I am driven by color, yet in photography black and white realism, chiaroscuro contrast, and the story telling potential of photo journalism has my heart. But for now... I have some sparkly little crystals I need to weave into a matrix! 🤩🤓Perhaps another bracelet... in time!💫 And while we bead we think... #photographysouls #dorothealange
Some pretty spring greens going out today!🌿
March is a busy month for me so it may seem a bit quiet around here for awhile; still—the shop is open and I’m always happy to hear from you if you want to discuss a custom request. In the garden, March is anything but quiet; the daffodils are beginning to open their trumpet blooms, the ferns will begin to unfurl and if you lean in closely to listen they make a strange but pleasing crackling sort of music .... while the squirrel turf wars shall commence with gusto and as always they provide entertainment to accompany the wine and cheese for our happy hour on the patio. The bird song is tremendous; they are very happy to be back in their old nests in the apple trees. 🤩 Shall we go outside? 🌿🌿🌿
The request was for romantic earrings, in shades of pink.💕🌸💕 These are stitched, lightweight and suggest the romance of poets like the lovestruck Brownings... “how do I love thee? let me count the ways”... (these were a custom request but please contact me if you would like something similar!) 🌸💕🌸
Hello March, welcome back, geese!🌿🌺🌿 (sound on)
